Oct 12 (Field Level Media) – Canelo Alvarez confirmed he plans to go ahead with his Oct. 31 fight in Riyadh despite attacks on the Saudi Arabian capital’s airport.
Alvarez, who hasn’t fought since September 2025, is scheduled to face WBC super-middleweight champion Christian M’Billi.
“Canelo reached out and told me he’ll still fight in Riyadh this October, no matter what happens,” promoter Turki Al-Sheikh posted Sunday on social media. “He fears nothing. My country is home to the two Holy Mosques, land of peace, safety, rich civilization, deep history, and kind-hearted people.”
Alvarez, 36, is a former two-time undisputed super-middleweight champion. The Mexican fighter lost a unanimous decision to Terence Crawford in Las Vegas on Sept. 13, 2025, just the third loss of his career.
Strikes by the Iran-backed Houthi militia against Riyadh’s international airport have killed at least 12 people and wounded more than 300, according to Saudi officials.
