EAST LANSING, MI — Michigan State University is said to be finalizing a deal to hire Western Michigan athletic director Dan Bartholomae as its next athletic director. Reporting by the Detroit News and Free Press newspapers say an announcement from the school could come as early as today.
Bartholomae comes to East Lansing after leading Western Michigan’s athletic department since 2022, where he oversaw significant fundraising success and helped guide the Broncos to athletic achievements across multiple sports. He’s also held leadership roles at Oregon State and Pitt.
He will replace outgoing AD J. Batt, who left earlier this summer for a job at the University of Kentucky.
