EAST LANSING, MI — The discovery of a meth lab inside Wells Hall at Michigan State University caused the building to be closed down earlier this week. The building remains closed.
The Ingham County Prosecutor’s Office has subsequently charged Xin Tong, 31, with the malicious destruction of a building valued over $20,000 and operating or maintaining a lab involving methamphetamine. MSU has not confirmed if Tong is a student or faculty member, though he is not listed in a database of current MSU employees.
According to reporting by media partner WLNS TV 6 in Lansing, MSU public safety officers responded to reports of property damage at Wells Hall over the weekend and later identified Tong as their suspect. The building was evacuated and closed on Monday.
