OVID, MI — Summer swim days are winding down and now another algae bloom has closed the beach at Sleepy Hollow State Park near Ovid.
For now there is a no swimming at the beach at Lake Ovid. The temporary swimming ban is due to an algae bloom, according to the Michigan Department Natural Resources. This follows another beach closure earlier this summer just before Memorial Day.
According to a statement, the beach area was tested earlier this week when the algae was noticed. An algal bloom may contain particles harmful to human health. Visit Michigan.gov/HABs for more information.
It’s not clear when the swim advisory might be lifted, according to the DNR, but treatment measures are being considered.
