LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Overdose deaths in Michigan have dropped 47% since 2021, according to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.
The state’s overdose death rate for 2025 is projected to be 16.4 deaths per 100,000residents, down from 30.8 deaths per 100,000 in 2021.
There were 3,096 deaths from overdoses in 2021 and are predicted to be under 1,800 this year.
The number of opioid overdose deaths hit 2,539 in 2021, the highest on record since the state started keeping track of those in 2000.
