DETROIT, MI — A gang of six brazen car thieves involved in a multi-state car theft ring has been arrested, according to Detroit area media. The auto-theft ring operated throughout Michigan and likely in the Lansing area. They are suspected of stealing hundreds of new cars from auto plants and dealerships using pre-programmed or stolen key fobs.
The suspects are from Detroit, Wixom and Troy. Two additional suspects are being sought by police.
Lansing-area manufacturer lots and dealerships have been targeted numerous times in recent years by groups of thieves, according to the report. However, police are not saying if those arrested this week can be tied to any of the specific Lansing incidents.
