MARSHALL, MI — The state where Kmart was founded will lose its last store in November. Kmart will close in Marshall, about 20 miles east of Battle Creek, this fall.
The company, which is now owned by Transformco, opened its first Kmart in Garden City, Mich., in 1962. It bought Sears in 2005. The company closed its last Sears store in Michigan in Westland this summer.
The Kmart chain was known for home goods, apparel and sporting goods, plus daily deals and celebrity brands. The iconic Blue Light Special was a store staple.
