STORM DAMAGE UPDATE. First, all volunteers and kitties are safe. That is more than we can say about one of our buildings. Our clinic building, where we perform surgeries and house some kitties, suffered significant damage to the roof. In fact, the storm ripped off much of the roofing material, including the flashing and our chimney, etc. The heavy rain then started pouring into the upstairs where we have kitties and supplies.
Thankfully, there were volunteers at the shelter at the time of the storm, and kitties were quickly moved away from windows and relocated from the upstairs clinic building to our main shelter (yes, during the storm!).
We’ve had many people ask what we need and how they can help. We don’t yet know what our insurance will cover/if it will cover. We do know that whether they cover a whole new roof, or offset some of the costs of a new roof, there will be a deductible. We don’t know how much that is.
While we figure the insurance part out, we have someone coming to tarp the roof to prevent further water damage. We now await word on insurance for next steps.
How can you help? Whatever the outcome, the fix will take considerable financial resources.
Any assistance you can provide will help us get back on our feet that much quicker. Whether that’s $5 or $500, your donation matters. We know if our whole community comes together, we will soon have a new roof and the kitty spaces upstairs will be as good as new.

“Teal There’s a Cure” Songwriters Concert to Raise Awareness for Ovarian Cancer
Lansing, MI – July 26, 2025 – The Hope Sports Complex will come alive with music, purpose, and community as the Barbara Leatherwood Fight for the Cure Foundation and Hope Sports Complex to host “Teal There’s a Cure: A Songwriters Charity Concert.”
This special event aims to raise awareness for ovarian and gynecologic cancer, the deadliest gynecologic cancer affecting women and children, while also supporting Michigan State University’s Gynecologic Research Department.
Despite the severity of ovarian cancer, Lansing has had no awareness surrounding the deadliest gynecologic cancer, which currently has No early detection test. This event seeks to change that by educating the community and funding critical research efforts.
The concert will feature an impressive lineup of seven artists, including:
Bernie Nelson – Michigan native & Nashville-renowned platinum record songwriter.
The Calamity Janes – Award-winning sister duo from Texas
Ron St. Germain Band
Jamison Livingston
Gwen Doerfler
Rollin Brummette
In Season featuring Yanice Yvette & Henry Walker
The event begins at 3:00 PM with opening remarks and a prayer, followed by live music, silent auctions, and educational opportunities to help attendees learn more about ovarian cancer and the urgent need for research funding.
