MINNEAPOLIS, MN (WKZO AM/FM) – The Detroit Tigers lost to the Minnesota Twins 12-9 in ten innings in Minneapolis Sunday afternoon. The loss completed a four-game sweep for Minnesota.
Tigers catcher Jake Rogers hit a grand slam in the top of the ninth off of reliever Taylor Rogers to put Detroit ahead 9-8. The Twins answered with a solo home run by Ben Rortvedt, the second homer of his big league career, in the bottom of the frame to tie the game. Jorge Polanco hit a three-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the 10th inning for the Minnesota win.
Akil Baddoo had three RBI and a solo homer. Wily Peralta gave up one run in five innings for the Tigers.
Detroit hosts Minnesota in a four-game series after the All-Star Break. The Tigers are currently 40-51 on the season.
