DEARBORN, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Gas prices in Michigan are down 2 cents compared to last week. Michigan drivers are now paying an average price of $2.13 per gallon for regular unleaded. This price is 5 cents less than this time last month and about 65 cents less than this time last year.
Motorists are paying an average of $32 for a full 15-gallon tank of gasoline; a discount of $12 from when prices were their highest last July.
As COVID-19 case numbers surpass 4 million, demand for gasoline is weakening across the country. The latest Energy Information Administration (EIA) demand reading measures at 8.5 million b/d, which is about 11% less than a year ago.
“Gas prices are likely to fluctuate throughout the rest of the summer due to COVID-19 concerns,” said Adrienne Woodland, spokesperson for AAA.
- Most expensive gas price averages: Marquette ($2.27), Metro Detroit ($2.22), Ann Arbor ($2.13)
- Least expensive gas price averages: Traverse City ($2.00), Lansing ($2.02), Benton Harbor ($2.02)
Compared to last week, Metro Detroit’s average daily gas price decreased slightly. Metro Detroit’s current average is $2.22 per gallon, 3 cents less than last week’s average and 64 cents less than this time last year.
In Kalamazoo County, drivers are paying an average of $1.95 per gallon of unleaded gas.
