LANSING, MI — Students in the Waverly School District will get to enjoy one more day of summer vacation. Waverly officials announced Monday that students will now return to class on August 21, one day later than originally expected due to ongoing summer construction projects.
School Superintendent Richard Dunham said on Facebook the schedule flex is meant to ensure classrooms are ready for all students and to keep the school district’s buildings on a uniform schedule going forward.
“We are excited to welcome students back for a new school year filled with learning, growth, and community. To help ensure classrooms are ready for students, we are making a small adjustment to our schedule,” Dunham said. “To ensure consistency for students grades Kindergarten through 12th grade, the first day of school will be delayed by one day at all school buildings. With summer construction projects wrapping up right against their deadlines, this extra day provides the necessary time for final preparations inside our buildings.”
Dunham concluded his post by apologizing to parents for the last minute schedule adjustment.
