LANSING, MI — This is the week we celebrate police officers in our state. It’s part of National Police Week. There are 573 separate police agencies in the state with over 18,000 sworn law enforcement officers in Michigan.
The state of Michigan this week honors and remembers those officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty, including the over 600 officers in the state.
“We recognize the hard work of our law enforcement agencies throughout Michigan, from ensuring public safety in our communities and our roads to responding to disasters,” said Gov. Gretchen Whitmer in a statement. “We ask a lot of our Federal, State, Tribal, and local law enforcement, and it is our responsibility to ensure they have the training, resources, and support they need to do their jobs well and stay safe.”
Police Week in Michigan runs through May 17.
