EAST LANSING, MI — Several music licensing groups are suing Dublin Square Irish Pub & Restaurant in East Lansing over recorded music the bar played this summer.
The Lansing State Journal is reporting W. Chapell Music and BMG are asking for damages from the bar after it played a series of songs licensed by the pair. The songs included Play That Funky Music by Wild Cherry and Funky Cold Medina by Tone Loc.
According to the report in the LSJ, the bar is facing a financial penalty of $30,000 per song played.
Dublin Square was at one point licensed to play music inside the bar, but let the license expire in 2019 without renewing it, according to the suit.
The LSJ says the bar is one of 12 restaurants and bars sued recently by the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) over similar issues.
