HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — The National Weather Service office in Grand Rapids issued a severe thunderstorm watch, in effect until midnight, for includes 15 counties in West and Central Michigan, including Allegan, Ottawa, Barry, Calhoun, Kalamazoo, Kent, Muskegon, Van Buren, Gratiot, Montcalm, Clinton, Eaton, Ingham, Ionia, and Jackson.
As of 8 p.m. thunderstorms producing wind gusts up to 70 mph began blowing intermittently across the state, most severe south of the I-96 corridor.
Consumers Energy’s outage map reflected more than 21,000 customers wtihout power as of 8:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 10, 2020.
Drivers may encountered downed wires, limbs or trees and possible flooded roads.
A small-craft advisory is in effect until 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2020, because of the storms.
