Overview:
Restaurant: Fletcher’s Pub
Location: 2 Locations
(Oakwood Plaza 3013 Oakland Drive Kalamazoo, MI 49008 and Texas Corners 7177 West
Q Avenue Kalamazoo, MI 49009)
Price: Reasonably
priced items varying from $8 appetizers to $17 steaks.
-
Atmosphere: A perfect place to hang out with friends, grab a
drink, watch a big game, and enjoy a causal bar feel. - Service: No complaints.
-
Food Options: Good variety for a pub. Tons of appetizers,
salads, quesadillas, tacos, larger entrees like fish and steak, burgers,
sandwiches, wraps, and build you own pizzas. - Taste: Nothing mind-blowing but still good quality food.
-
Vegetarian Options: Sorry vegetarians…Fletcher’s Pub is not
very veggie-friendly. Options are slim (there’s not even a veggie burger from
what I saw). The best bet is to probably do a build you own pizza, a salad without
the meat, mac and cheese, certain appetizers, or a quesadilla with no meat.
Description:
With Western Michigan University students heading back to
campus, I can see this pub being the perfect college hang out spot. First of
all if Fletcher’s Pub looks similar to some other restaurants around Kalamazoo,
it’s because it’s owned by the Houz Restaurant Group which also owns Main
Street Pub, University Roadhouse, and The Old Goat Tavern. I went to the
Fletcher’s in the Oakwood Plaza, which is kind of tucked away and easy to miss.
The restaurant has a fun college-like feel with tons of screens to watch
different sports games, various decorations on the walls, and a full bar with
plenty of seating.
Be sure to start with one of their delicious cocktails. I
believe I had a pineapple sangria or some special they had for the summer which
came in a massive wine glass and was very tasty. They also have the occasional
drink special like $2.50 domestic bottles on certain nights, you just have to
go to their website to look at the upcoming specials because they vary from day
to day and from restaurant to restaurant. Otherwise they have tons of different beers bottled and on tap.
I’m not going to lie their menu isn’t anything crazy, but it
does have a decent variety for a pub. We started with the garlic parmesan bites
(lightly fried dough bites tossed with garlic butter and parmesan and served with marinara sauce). They were kind of like savory donut bites if that makes
sense and pretty good. I also had their quesadilla with no meat, because sorry
my vegetarian friends, your options are slim. I was shocked to see that they
didn’t even have a veggie burger or like a grilled veggie wrap (I absolutely
love Main Street’s grilled portobello sandwich). If I go back I would probably do
a build my own pizza because the quesadilla was good but nothing special. For
everyone else there are a ton of options from your basic pub food to fancier
dishes like a bluegill basket, cod, steak platter, and even some creative
dishes like the PBB&JJ Burger (A pound burger with peanut butter,
jalapeno strawberry jelly, and bacon pieces).
Like I said, be sure to check out their specials page on
their website
because not only does it have good food and drink specials for
both Fletcher’s Pub locations, but you can also see some other happenings going
on at Main St. and other Houz Restaurant Group locations. Overall I can see
this being a perfect spot for college students to hang out, grab a drink after
class, or watch a big game with friends while eating a variety of good-quality pub food.
