Okay let’s be honest, I probably wouldn’t have stepped foot in
here if it wasn’t for Kalamazoo’s Restaurant Week because this girl is broke,
but boy am I glad I did check it out.

Description:

Wow, talk about classy. Okay now don’t judge, I’m just not
someone who eats at very fancy places very often. But God bless Kalamazoo
Restaurant Week for offering some 3 course meals for only $25. So I thought I’d
indulge a little and try Principle, the cutest what they call “rustic-chic”
cocktail bar on the Kalamazoo Mall.

Our waitress was on the quieter side, but super knowledgeable
and professional when it came to the menu and the presentation of each dish. We
started our 3 course meal with the avocado toast and oh my goodness it almost
looked too pretty to eat. But I’m glad I did eat it because it was amazing.
Then the 2
<sup>
nd
</sup>
dish we had the grilled broccoli with spicy mayonnaise and
almonds which was just as delicious.

Then (for all my vegetarians out there) we
had the stuffed pepper and I also bought a plate of the vegan jambalaya. Everything
was awesome, but if you’re not a huge hot or spicy food fan (like me), you
might want to stray away from these dishes. They had a much stronger kick to
them than I thought they would. But, the cool part was the stuffed pepper
(attention vegetarians again) was stuffed with the “Impossible Burger.” My
first time trying it and although it looked more like refried beans than an
actual burger, boy did it taste just like meat. BUT IT WASN’T. Crazy right? And
obviously we had to end our (already expensive) meal with a dessert and the
peanut butter torte was like I died and went to peanut butter heaven (which is
a good thing). It was amazing. Tab total? About $55 with tip. (Ouch.)

Overall it’s a classy place with professional service, smaller
plates, smaller food options, but a ton of taste. You can tell the chef back
there really works hard to make the perfect dish.

(Sorry the pictures are a little dark. I mean, the fancier the place the darker the lighting am I right?)
